Launch Event for the 2nd (2025) UK Malaysia Film Festival π¬π¬π§π²πΎ
Following the success of the inaugural Film Festival last year, we are pleased to launch the second UK Malaysian Film Festival in London to show case the made-in Malaysia films we have specially selected for you to watch and enjoy. Promoting cultural links between Malaysia and the U.K. has been one of the key pillars of the work of BMS over the years.
The UK Malaysian Film Festival returns this autumn with an exciting new line-up celebrating the best of Malaysian cinema. This yearβs festival will run from 27 October to 15 November, beginning at the beautifully designed Everyman Cinema, Whiteley, before continuing at Kingβs College London. πβ¨
The festival will open with A Year Without a Summer (2010) — a multi-award-winning film by acclaimed Malaysian filmmaker Tan Chui Mui. π Directed, written, and edited by Tan herself, the film is an intimate, poetic journey about memory, friendship, and loss.
The opening night will take place at Everyman Whiteley Cinema, a newly opened venue known for its exquisite design and cozy atmosphere. π· There will be a reception and networking session before the screening — a perfect opportunity to connect with fellow film lovers and cultural enthusiasts.

Synopsis:
Azam returns to his hometown in search of his childhood friend Ali. Welcomed warmly by Ali and his wife Minah, the trio spend the night reminiscing — speaking of love, folklore, mystic creatures, and their youth by the sea. As dawn approaches, Minah reveals her ability to hold her breath underwater for three minutes. Azam tries to match her — but never resurfaces.
